FSSAI full form is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) which is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
FSSAI is an authority to provide a food license to every food business in India. FSSAI makes sure that the food business runs with appropriate license and a quality check. The food businesses are required to follow the FSSAI rules and guidelines. FSSAI is in entirely responsible for setting the standard and principles and controls for the welfare of food businesses in India.
The FSSAI is a governmental body tasked with ensuring food safety in India. The FSSAI registration was created at the central level, to ensure that food products being sold in the Indian marketplace would adhere to a set of guidelines and regulations at any given time. In other words, the main goal of an FSSAI registration was to ensure public health, through a mechanism of regulation and supervision of food safety in the country. The department issues licenses to various businesses on the basis of an FSSAI fee. The FSSAI fee is paid at the time of registration, and the subsequent number issued is printed on their product or mentioned in a prominent place, for the general public.
FSSAI was established by Former Union Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss,Government of India on 5 August 2011 under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which was operationalized in year 2006. The FSSAI consists of a chairperson & 22 members. The FSSAI is responsible for setting standards for food Ministry of Health & Family Welfare; Government of India is the Administrative Ministry of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
